Group wants statistics taught in secondary schools

The President of Nigerian Statistical Association, Prof. Sidney Onyeagu, has advocated the teaching of statistics in secondary schools to encourage youths to study it in institutions of higher learning.

Onyeagu on Monday in Abuja said that the association has formed a group of professors who are working towards re-introducing the subject in the secondary school curriculum.

He said, “So, their work is to bring out the course content of the six books we want to write. Once they bring out the course content and the curriculum, then we now send it to those six panels.

“They are in different zones of the country. So, when they finish, we apply to the Federal ministry of Education and we see the people at Education Research Council.

“We will tell them that our young ones are saying we should start teaching statistics in the secondary schools.
