BFI to address girl-child challenges in Akwa Ibom

The Better Future Initiative (BFI) will Friday host girls across Akwa Ibom state at a one-day workshop to address challenges facing them in modern times.

The executive director of the NGO, Ms Anne Udoh, disclosed this via a statement today.

The workshop tagged “Womentorship,” according to the statement, will focus on confidence building and Sexual and Reproductive Health among adolescent girls.

The statement reads: “The workshop comes as a result of increasing cases of teenage pregnancy, rape cases, child abandonment, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.

“BFI will mentor the participants on how to stay clear of these challenges, live a better live, forge ahead and complete their education and/or vocation.”

Guests expected at the event include the Director of Public Health Services, Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health, Dr. Godwin Ebuk; the Executive Director of Community Partners for Development, Dr. Nsekpong Udoh; Mrs Udoh, a teacher with Dominion Academy at Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and the Coordinator, Adolescent and Reproductive Health Unit in the State Ministry of Health, Mrs Grace Jimmy.

She added that there will also be a one on one counselling session during the workshop as well as a session on building self esteem and self confidence.
