The University of Lagos has stated that the 13 students, a Special Offences mobile court sitting in Oshodi, Lagos, ordered on April 1, 2017 to be remanded at the Kirikiri prison, Lagos, are not students of the institution.
The police had arraigned the students before Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka on two counts charge of unlawful invasion and disruption of activities. They were accused of unlawful invasion of the TVC television station, Ikosi, Lagos, on March 31, 2017 protesting the rustication of a UNILAG student. They were also said to have invaded the UNILAG main campus at Akoka and disrupted normal activities in the institution.
The accused are Femi Adeyeye, Toni Aina, Kodri Yaya, Asimi Oladime, Ismahim Olalekan, Segun Okesola, Abdulazeez Soneye, Idris Abogunloko, Muyiwa Olaniyi, Toheed Oladimeji, Joseph Akanni, Lukumon Olusegun and Abiodun Agbeniyi.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate ordered their remand at the Kirikiri prison pending their bail application and adjourned the case to April 6, 2017 for a determination of their bail.
