The senator representing Adamawa North, Binta Masi Garba, has said she once threatened to sue her sister for not enrolling the domestic helper in her house in school.
Binta was among the panellist at an interactive forum organised by Ja Muje, a solution-driven initiative aimed at positively affecting development in northern Nigeria.
The interactive session was for youths to engage policymakers in discussion on several issues including youth inclusion in politics, gender parity and Almajiri education.
She said her sister once brought a young girl home to support in looking after the kids, “and when I noticed she wasn’t going to school, I enquired why. She was going to justify that she has enrolled her in Islamiya” she said.
“I told her Islamiya is not enough and if the girl is not taken to school, I would sue her” she added.
The senator noted that the integration of both formal and Qur’anic education will help in empowering children and also help them translate happenings around them “without these experiences looking strange to them”.
