FUT Minna donates police post to host community

The Federal University of Technology, (FUT) Minna, has built a police post at Gidan Kwanu, its host community.

The police post which was commissioned by the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Muazu Zubairu, alongside the Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Musbau Akanji, yesterday, was also furnished by the institution.

Speaking before the commissioning ceremony, Prof. Akanji said the gesture was part of the institution’s modest contribution to fighting crime, especially within the host community and the university environment.

He said, as the host community, which also played host to some students, expanded in population and economic activities, there was the tendency that crime rate would rise, adding that the management decided to take preventive measure against such occurrence.

Responding the police commissioner, who described FUT Minna as the most police-friendly institution in the state, thanked the management for the gesture. He appealed to the management to provide an operational vehicle to enable the police patrol the community and respond quickly to distress calls. The commissioner urged students to shun all forms of criminality, especially cultism and face their studies.

In his vote of thanks, the Village Head of Gidan Kwanu, Alhaji Abdulmalik Mohammed, said the establishment of the police post was a dream come true for the members of the host community who had hitherto looked forward for a security presence.
