In a significant move to broaden its reach and enhance educational assessment beyond Nigerian borders, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited additional foreign schools to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The newly accredited institutions are located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea, adding to an already diverse list of international examination centers.

Azeez Sani, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, announced the accreditation on Saturday, detailing that a specialized NECO Accreditation Team visited the schools to assess their readiness for the examinations. The evaluation process involved a meticulous inspection of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer facilities, workshops, examination halls, and sports amenities to ensure they meet NECO’s stringent standards.

The Accreditation Team conducted a thorough evaluation and comprehensive assessment, resulting in the schools being granted full accreditation status for both the SSCE and BECE

“The Accreditation Team conducted a thorough evaluation and comprehensive assessment, resulting in the schools being granted full accreditation status for both the SSCE and BECE,” Sani said.

This expansion reflects NECO’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of education and assessment services available worldwide. Sani elaborated, “The accreditation of additional foreign schools is a testament to NECO’s commitment to providing quality education and assessment beyond the shores of Nigeria. With its expanding global footprint, NECO is poised to emerge as a prominent examination body in Africa, offering students from around the world access to its expertise, thus contributing to the advancement of education across the continent and beyond.”

NECO examinations are now accessible to candidates in several countries, including Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

In related news, candidates are currently participating in the NECO SSCE External Examinations at the UNHCR School in Diffa, Niger Republic. This center is noted as the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria, exemplifying the organization’s ongoing efforts to reach students in various regions.
