Nigerian-American professor, Farooq Kperogi, has revealed that he experienced strong criticism and social rejection in Northern Nigeria due to his outspoken views about former President Muhammadu Buhari during his time in office. Kperogi made this known in an interview with TRUST TV on Saturday, May 23, 2026, where he reflected on his past political commentary and the reactions it attracted.

According to him, his public criticisms were centred on what he described as Buhari’s governance approach, which he believed leaned heavily toward Northern or “Arewa” interests.
