The appeals, identified as CA/PH/137M/2024 and CA/PH/145M/2024, were filed by Hon. Enyiada Cookey-Gam and six others. They contested the decisions of the lower court regarding the elongation of council leadership tenure.

The Court of Appeal determined that the appeals did not meet the required standards and consequently struck them out.

The amendment of the local government law by Martin Amaewhule-led lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, which extended the tenure of 23 local Chairmen by six months beyond the June expiration, was at the centre of the dispute.
