Adejobi underscored the commitment of the Force Headquarters to purging the police force of corruption and ensuring justice in all reported cases.

The allegations emerged after Nigerian citizen Kelechi Isaac posted a video on social media claiming that Bayelsa police operatives extorted ₦3 million from him under duress. Isaac, who is originally from Nguru Nworie in Imo State but resides in Ghana, had returned to Nigeria for a friend’s traditional marriage in Bayelsa when the incident occurred.

Isaac reported that while driving home from the ceremony with two friends, their vehicle was stopped by five police operatives who identified themselves as part of the “IGP’s Special Squad.” The operatives’ vehicle was unmarked, and their uniforms lacked name tags.

According to Isaac, the officers searched their vehicle, forced him to unlock his phone, and, upon seeing a ₦10 million bank alert, demanded ₦6 million. He claimed that they beat him and threatened to kill him and his friends if he did not comply.

The victim said he was handcuffed, driven around, and beaten further. After intense negotiations, he agreed to transfer ₦3 million to two separate bank accounts provided by the operatives. The money was transferred in two parts: ₦2 million to an account at Monie Point Microfinance Bank under Yusuf Mustafa and ₦1 million to another Monie Point Microfinance Bank account under Jerry Ventures.
