Joe Igbokwe, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has publicly urged President Bola Tinubu to address the rising electricity tariffs in Nigeria. In a recent Facebook post, Igbokwe expressed his concern that the high tariffs could harm businesses if immediate action isn’t taken. He shared his personal experience, lamenting that N20,000 worth of electricity units now last only a single day in his small Surulere office, where he operates seven air conditioning units.

Previously, the same amount of units lasted much longer, prompting Igbokwe to call for a review of the Band A tariff system.

Reactions to Igbokwe’s plea were swift, with many social media users mocking his complaints. Some pointed out that the tariff increase is part of the “Renewed Hope” agenda his party supports. Comments like “Because it touched him, that’s why he is complaining,” and “E go favour you, just buy fuel for 1200” reflected a mixture of sarcasm and frustration among the public. Others humorously advised him to switch to solar power or simply endure the situation like many Nigerians.
