According to a report by Vanguard on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Wole Soyinka stated that, during the fight for the restoration of democracy, he stopped the late human rights activist Beko Ransome-Kuti from attempting to kill Head of State General Sani Abacha. Soyinka said he saw Beko with a special kind of gun that could avoid detection by security machines.
