According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has explained the reason behind his decision to pick former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi said the choice was based on a common commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians by prioritising education and strengthening the country’s economy.
