According to a report by The Punch on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Nigerian political landscape witnessed a major shake-up on Tuesday as 27 members of the House of Representatives swapped parties, signaling a massive realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the biggest winner, further consolidating its grip on the Green Chamber.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas officially announced the shifts during plenary, noting that the APC now boasts approximately 280 members in the 360-seat house.
This is a significant jump from the 181 members the party held at the inauguration in June 2023. In contrast, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has seen its numbers plummet from 115 to just 38 members.
