The leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom State, Sen. John James Akpan Udoedeghe has expressed confidence that Peter Obi has the capacity to restore stability and good governance in Nigeria if given the opportunity to lead the country. He made this known in his house in Uyo during a strategic political consultation with members of the Obidient Movement in Akwa Ibom State recently.
The Obidient delegation led by Captain Augustine Okon, told the Senator that the ADC is part of a growing coalition of progressive political forces in Nigeria, noting that the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) is also part of the alliance. He stressed the need for political inclusion of the Obidient Movement in the party’s structure and decision-making process.
According to Okon, the Obidient Movement has proven itself as a critical political force capable of mobilizing large numbers of supporters across the country. He added that the movement has the capacity to drive its numerous members to positively influence the party and help secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Also speaking at the meeting, the State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Ben Smith thanked Sen. Udoedeghe for nominating him as the Assistant Organising Secretary, South-South of the party. He maintained that the Obidient Movement is made up of vibrant and committed young men and women who sacrificed greatly in their support for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
Smith emphasized that members of the movement remain committed to the vision of a new Nigeria and are ready to continue mobilizing support for Obi ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Responding to some alleged sidelining of Obidients divisions within the ADC leadership structure, Sen. Udoedeghe dismissed such claims, describing them as mere individual differences and personality issues that should not be exaggerated or entertained, “Nobody is more obedient than me,” the Senator stated, adding that there is no conflict between the Obidient Movement and other political groups working toward the same goal, “We are not against the Obidient. There is no problem between the Obidient Movement and our group,” he said.
The former FCT Minister expressed optimism about the future of the movement and the chances of Peter Obi in Nigeria’s political landscape, “Obi will be a wave,” he declared, adding that he still believes divine intervention will play a role in the emergence of Peter Obi as President of Nigeria.
Present at the political forum were members of the State Executive Committee of the Obidient Movement in Akwa Ibom, the State Chairman of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Elder Iniubong Jack; the State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Saviour Ekpe, and other stakeholders.
