The palatial stage, rhythmic drum beats, colourful outfits, and shots from dane guns set the festive mood.

Anxious onlookers, drink vendors, elaborate decorations, busy roads, bystanders, massive projector screens, and a heavy security presence added to the atmosphere.

Canopies and tents of various types, shapes, and sizes were also in place.

The highly anticipated event culminated in a series of activities, starting with the official opening of the ultramodern Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

Although the weather initially appeared cloudy, it began to clear up, with signs of the sun emerging.

Despite the initial weather concerns, dignitaries started arriving at the venue for this historic event.

The list of prominent individuals included the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami and the Oyo State deputy governor, Bayo Lawal.

Traditional rulers at the event include the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola.

The roll call also included traditional rulers from within and outside the state, community leaders, prominent indigenes of the state, and top government functionaries among people who are already at the event.

Before the presentation of staff of office by Governor Makinde, the new Olubadan was earlier crowned at the Labosinde compound, the family that has the mandate, according to the tradition, to crown all Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Oba Olakuleyin immediately moved to Ile Osemeji at Oja Oba area of the city after his crowning as the new Olubadan.

Ile Osemeji is regarded as the place where the divination on the future of Ibadan was revealed.

The official presentation of the staff of office to the new Ibadan monarch and other paraphernalia of office by Governor Seyi Makinde later took place at the popular Mapo Hall venue of the coronation.

Those present at the venue include a former Oyo State Governor and member of the Olubadan-in-Council, Rashidi Ladoja; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, among others.

The Ibadan Kingmakers unanimously nominated the Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin as the next Olubadan of Ibadan following the passing of Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The kingmakers at a meeting held at Mapo Hall and chaired by Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, nominated Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubaban.

Ladoja is a former governor of Oyo State.

However, the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola was absent from the meeting.

Ajibola had stirred up controversy when he declared that Olakulehin was ill and not physically fit to rule.

The position was however faulted by Ladoja, who insisted that Ajibola only gave his personal opinion on the health status of Olakulehin.

Ladoja added that Ajibola was not a medical doctor and so could not determine Olakulehin’s health status.>>>CONTINUE FULL READING HERE
