According to a report by Channels TV, Hon. Charles Wobodo, the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, has vehemently denied allegations that the state government or local residents were responsible for the recent burning of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Ubima.
The incident occurred just hours before former Governor Rotimi Amaechi arrived in his hometown to officially register as a member of the ADC.
While Amaechi and party leadership have condemned the arson as a “barbaric” attack by political thugs, Wobodo suggests the event was either a fabrication or the result of internal party friction.
Questioning the legitimacy of the facility itself, Wobodo claimed the secretariat appeared almost overnight, suggesting it was set up specifically to be destroyed for political optics.
“They said their ward in Ubima LG was burnt down. They had different wards in different communities. His own ward, that place. I’m sure has barely got within a day and two days it was painted; the next minute it was burnt,” Wobodo said.
He further questioned the relevance of the party in the area:
“Who will go and burn ADC secretariat? Has ADC never existed in this community? First, ADC has never existed. So what is the burning of the secretariat going to do for the people?”
Wobodo maintained that if any violence did occur, it originated from within the former governor’s own camp.
He warned against using the community as a scapegoat for political sympathy.
“If they (ADC) have the internal crisis, that’s for them, but they shouldn’t go and put something on people, believing that people are attacking him,” the Chairman stated. “Nobody’s attacking Amaechi anywhere; he is the one attacking himself.”
