Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central in the national assembly, has pleaded with Aliko Dangote to reconsider his decision to halt investment in Nigeria’s steel industry. According to Legit.ng, Africa’s wealthiest man, Dangote, recently announced that his company would abandon its plans to establish a steel manufacturing firm in Nigeria.

Dangote cancelled the investment plans following government accusations of monopolistic intentions. He explained that the company’s board decided against the plan to avoid being labelled monopolistic, adding that such allegations have significantly discouraged them.

Reacting to the news, Sani posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, July 22:

“Dear Dangote, I know you are angry, but please rescind your decision not to invest in Nigeria’s steel industry. Your investment will create thousands of jobs for our young people and help in the industrialisation of the country. Don’t mind those old folks. Thank you.”

In June, Alhaji Dangote had announced plans for his company to enter steel production, aiming to ensure that every steel product used in West Africa would come from Nigeria.
