Why God Appears Silent When Some People Cry to Him – Pastor Daniel Olukoya Explains
Dr Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), has said that one major reason some believers cry to God without results is because they have provoked His jealousy through hidden idols in their lives.
Preaching on YouTube in a sermon titled “The Jealousy of God”, Olukoya explained that God’s silence is sometimes a sign of divine displeasure, not indifference. Citing Exodus 34:14 and Deuteronomy 4:24, he reminded believers that “the Lord whose name is Jealous is a consuming fire,” adding that His nature does not tolerate spiritual rivalry.
“Many people are praying and fasting, but heaven is silent,” the cleric said. “That may explain why some people are crying to God, and He seems not to be interested. They have other gods competing for His place in their hearts.” He noted that these “other gods” are often not physical idols but subtle distractions like money, relationships, career, or pleasure.
Dr Olukoya read from Psalm 78 to illustrate how Israel provoked God with idolatry despite His goodness. “They tempted and provoked the Most High and moved Him to jealousy with their graven images,” he quoted. “When God heard it, He was angry and greatly abhorred Israel.”
He warned that the same principle applies today. “Once God sees that your trust, affection, or worship is divided, He withdraws His attention,” he said. “He cannot compete with idols.”
Urging Christians to examine their lives, Olukoya advised them to repent of anything that replaces God in their hearts. “Tear down every idol,” he declared. “When your heart becomes single toward God, His ears will be open to your cry, and His jealousy will fight for you, not against you.”
