A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daboikiabo Warmate, has said the party is willing to believe that Nyesom Wike means well with his recent call for unity after a major court decision affecting the party.
Warmate spoke during an interview on Trust TV while reacting to the ruling by the Court of Appeal that cancelled the PDP’s Ibadan convention. The judgement created fresh tension within the opposition party, which has been dealing with internal disagreements for some time.
According to Warmate, Wike’s public call for party leaders to come together and hold discussions could be a positive step toward resolving the crisis. He said many members of the party are ready to believe that Wike’s statement shows a genuine effort to help the party move forward.
Warmate explained that instead of continuing the legal battle to the Supreme Court, some leaders may prefer dialogue and compromise so the party can focus on rebuilding and strengthening itself ahead of future elections.
However, he also noted that there are concerns among some PDP members about Wike’s political position, especially his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While Wike has said he supports the president and not the ruling party, some party members believe his alliance could affect the PDP’s unity.
Warmate expressed hope that if party leaders meet for discussions, all sides will reconsider their positions and work toward restoring stability in the party.
In his words, “For him to have come out and said that, we want to take him by his word that, yes, he means well for the party.” See more
