According to Punch Newspaper, On Tuesday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory , Nyesom Wike, addressed the upcoming nationwide protest slated for August 1, 2024, labeling it as a political maneuver. The protest, which has gained traction on social media, is being organized under the hashtags #TinubuMustGo and #Revolution2024.

Many Nigerians are rallying for the protest in response to ongoing economic difficulties. Wike suggested that the motives behind the protest were politically driven, aiming to gain popularity rather than address genuine concerns.

In his address, Wike appealed for patience from the public, reminding them that the current administration has been in office for only one year and is actively working to address the numerous challenges facing the country. He emphasized that immediate solutions to long-standing issues might not be feasible and urged citizens to give the government more time.

Wike acknowledged the frustrations of Nigerians, particularly the widespread hunger and economic hardship. He empathized with their plight, recognizing that it is difficult to listen to reassurances when basic needs are unmet. Nonetheless,he urged the public to discern between genuine efforts to solve problems and political protests aimed at gaining popularity.

He said: I agree with Nigerians, when you’re hungry, you don’t want to listen to anything again because you’re hungry but understand that somebody is trying to solve that problem of hunger. So let us not listen to political protests, political jobbers, who just want to be popular.
