Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), has recounted a significant moment in his spiritual journey, explaining how leaving a place of comfort became a turning point in the fulfillment of his divine assignment.
During a sermon recently published on YouTube, Olukoya explained that the direction of his ministry changed when he obeyed what he described as God’s instruction to abandon a prestigious and comfortable position. At the time, he had been serving in a well-organized church environment where he enjoyed recognition, a respected role, and pleasant surroundings. According to him, the setting provided both stability and status, making it a desirable place to remain.
However, he said the path God designed for his life required a dramatic shift away from that comfortable environment. Olukoya recalled that he received a clear instruction to leave the established church setting and begin a fellowship in Makoko, an area known for its difficult conditions. The new meeting place, he explained, was a small shop rather than the spacious and well-maintained building he had previously been accustomed to.
The decision surprised many people around him. Olukoya stated that colleagues and observers found the move difficult to understand and even mocked the choice. Some questioned why he would voluntarily leave a clean and structured environment for a location that lacked basic conveniences and was difficult to access. Despite the criticism, he said he remained convinced that obedience to God’s directive was more important than maintaining personal comfort or social prestige.
Reflecting on the outcome, Olukoya emphasized that the growth and impact of his ministry were closely connected to that moment of obedience. According to him, stepping away from familiar surroundings allowed God’s purpose for his life to unfold in ways that would not have been possible if he had remained where he was.
The preacher used the experience to encourage believers to avoid becoming confined to safe and familiar situations. He explained that remaining within one’s comfort zone can sometimes limit the opportunities through which God intends to work. Olukoya urged individuals to trust divine guidance even when it leads to unfamiliar or challenging circumstances, noting that such decisions can ultimately produce greater influence, spiritual growth, and lasting impact.
