One Year After My Wife Died, I Started Seeing That It Was Difficult To Stay Single – Pastor Fenwa

After spending more than thirty years building a family, a home, and a ministry with his wife, Pastor Amos Fenwa found himself facing a deep sense of emptiness following her death. The founder of a successful church ministry he has led for almost four decades recently spoke about this personal experience during an appearance on the Morayo Show. In the interview, he reflected on the emotional and practical challenges that emerged after losing his wife of 33 years, particularly the absence of companionship and the reality of continuing both life and ministry without a partner.

According to him, the greatest difficulty was adjusting to the loss of shared purpose. He explained that throughout their marriage, ministry had always been a joint effort. His wife played an active role in the work they carried out together, making her absence especially difficult to accept. Having married at the age of 23, he had never experienced adult life outside the structure of marriage and partnership.

Pastor Fenwa recalled that the first few months after her passing did not immediately reveal the full weight of the situation. During the initial six months, he managed the transition relatively well. However, as more time passed, the emotional and practical impact became more obvious. After about a year, he began to recognize how challenging it was to continue daily life and ministry without the presence of someone who had always been there.

He also admitted that he had limited experience handling domestic responsibilities. Throughout his marriage, his wife and other support systems managed many household matters, allowing him to concentrate almost entirely on his pastoral work. This arrangement had worked smoothly for decades, making the adjustment to life alone even more difficult.

The experience also changed his perspective on remarriage among older ministers who had lost their spouses. He reflected on how he once questioned why some religious leaders chose to remarry relatively soon after losing their wives. At the time, he struggled to understand their decision. However, after confronting the realities of loneliness himself, he gained a new appreciation for the importance of companionship later in life.

With time, friends within the ministry and his adult children, who live in the United States, began encouraging him to consider remarrying. They believed that continuing the demanding work of pastoral leadership without emotional support could be overwhelming.

By sharing his story publicly, Pastor Fenwa provided a rare and honest glimpse into the personal struggles that spiritual leaders may experience behind the scenes, revealing the human side of grief, loneliness, and the search for renewed companionship. See More
