Why I became a cab driver after fame – Zlatan
Despite winning a significant music competition, Nigerian rapper Temidayo Omoniyi, better known by his stage name Zlatan Ibile, has spoken out about the difficulties he had as a budding artist while attending Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
After winning the 2014 Airtel One Mic Talent Show at the age of 19, Zlatan disclosed that he faced financial difficulties and had to turn the automobile he had won into a commercial taxi in order to make ends meet.
The head of Zanku Records stated that he would drive the car at night from Abeokuta to Shagamu, charging ₦350 every trip, in order to pay for meals and fund his schooling in an interview with well-known content maker and streamer Shank Comic.
When there wasn’t enough money for eating back in school, I would simply wait until nightfall and utilise the automobile I won from the Airtel One Mic Talent event to take a cab for ₦350 from Abeokuta to Shagamu,” he recalled.
Zlatan claimed that even though he received some fame during the talent contest, he did not immediately achieve financial stability.
He made a significant breakthrough in 2017 when he collaborated with well-known rapper Olamide on the popular song “My Body,” which he called the pivotal moment in his career.
