Nigeria’s former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, during a visit to his residence.
According to a media post by the APC National Chairman’s media aide, Samuel Samuel II, on Thursday, 12 March 2026, the visit reflected a warm and respectful interaction often described as a father-and-son moment between the elder statesman and the party leader.
During the meeting, Prof. Yilwatda explained that the visit was to check on the former Head of State and also to engage him in discussions on various national issues and matters of mutual interest.
He noted that leaders like Gowon remain important voices whose experience and guidance continue to shape conversations around national unity, peace, and development.
The APC National Chairman also acknowledged the former leader’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s history and his continued role as a respected elder statesman.
In his remarks, General Gowon expressed appreciation to Prof. Yilwatda for the visit and the show of respect. He wished the APC chairman a safe journey back home after the meeting.
