The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to reports that he was listed as one of the witnesses in the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking in Abuja in an interview with Channels TV, Wike said he was surprised to see his name included among Kanu’s witnesses, stressing that he never volunteered to be part of the case.
The FCT Minister explained that he has not received any formal notice or court process summoning him as a witness, describing the report as a mere media creation.
Wike maintained that he would only appear in court if properly served and compelled by law, not because of what he read in newspapers.
In Wike’s words:“If you see Nnamdi Kanu, ask him why he listed me. I did not go to say I want to be a witness. Nobody has served me any process. So because I saw Wike listed, therefore I’m going to run helter-skelter? If I’m subpoenaed to come and give evidence, I must obey the court, but not on pages of newspapers. Nobody does that.”
