According to a report by Arise News on Sunday 15th March 2026, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, is reportedly set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) this week, sources say.
Reports indicate that discussions over the terms of his defection are ongoing; Mohammed is said to have been offered an APC senatorial ticket and benefits similar to those received by other governors who joined the ruling party.
According to sources, the governor met with President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders to signal his intention to join the party ahead of the 2027 elections; The move may be partly linked to legal troubles facing his commissioner for finance, Yakubu Adamu, who faces terrorism and money laundering charges amounting to about N4.6 billion; Adamu allegedly threatened to implicate the governor if he was not released.
