Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has criticized Christians who attempt to live independently of God while still claiming to follow Him.
Speaking during a recent sermon shared on YouTube, Kumuyi warned that true Christian humility requires complete submission to God’s authority rather than trying to dictate how God should act.
Referencing Book of Isaiah 6:7, the cleric explained that spiritual cleansing begins when a believer recognizes their sin, renounces it, and seeks renewal from God. According to him, the purging described in the passage occurred because the prophet acknowledged his condition and submitted himself to God’s transforming power.
“The purging came because they recognized, renounced, and wanted a renewal,” Kumuyi said, explaining that genuine spiritual change happens when believers willingly come under God’s control.
However, the preacher lamented that some professing Christians prefer to remain in control of their own lives rather than surrender to God. He described such individuals as people who see themselves as “masters of their own lives and captains of their own ship.”
According to Kumuyi, this mindset contradicts the essence of Christian faith, which requires believers to live under the authority of the Lord.
“There are so-called Christians that are masters of their own lives,” he said. “They are not under the control of the Master and they are not under the control of anybody. They would rather want to control everybody else.”
Kumuyi further warned that some believers even attempt to dictate to God what He should or should not do.
“They even want to control the Lord,” he said. “They say, ‘Lord, not so. You can’t do it like that. Lord, not so. We wouldn’t do it like that. Lord, not so. We’re not going to accept that one.’”
The cleric stressed that such an attitude reflects pride rather than humility. He emphasized that Christians who truly follow Jesus Christ must learn to surrender their will completely to God.
Kumuyi concluded by urging believers to cultivate genuine humility and submission, noting that the kind of humility demonstrated by Christ can only be experienced when a person willingly lives under the Lord’s control. See More/Details…
