According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, on Sunday, stated that he would have resigned from his position as the elected governor of the state, but the prayers of his wife, Nonye, and the support of Ndi Anambra encouraged him to remain in office.
He explained that before assuming office for his first term, there were uncertainties about how events would unfold.
He recounted that he assured his wife that everything would work out and promised to remain steadfast in all aspects, including matters concerning government and governance systems.
Soludo made the statement while speaking to guests, party leaders, support groups, clergy, and Ndi Anambra during an interdenominational church service held at the International Convention Centre, Awka.
The service was organised to express gratitude to God for the successful completion of his first four-year term and for the upcoming inauguration of his second term, scheduled for Tuesday in the state.
During the address, he expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the federal government, security agencies, stakeholders, and the international community for their continuous support.
He also acknowledged the private sector, religious organisations, members of the State House of Assembly, the judiciary, traditional rulers, town union leaders, traders, market women, youths, and various support groups for their contributions, which he said produced positive outcomes during his first term.
He reflected on the messages delivered from the altar during the service, underscoring the importance of ecumenism and stressing the value of unity and brotherhood across all segments of society, regardless of origin.
He highlighted the need to embrace oneness as a foundation for societal progress.
Soludo further noted that the development of Anambra State and the nation cannot be achieved by focusing on differences in religious practices.
He pointed out that progress depends on the contributions individuals make to the state rather than the specific ways they worship.
He encouraged citizens to continue working collaboratively, emphasising that the strength of the state lies in collective effort and mutual support.
He described the combined efforts of the people and government stakeholders as essential in driving positive change and sustainable development in the state.
The governor also recounted the challenges faced during his first term, noting that resilience, perseverance, and community prayers were vital in overcoming difficulties.
He stressed that the cooperation between government officials and residents played a critical role in achieving milestones and advancing governance objectives.
Soludo urged Ndi Anambra to maintain the spirit of cooperation and unity, noting that the future of the state depends on consistent support and engagement from all citizens.
He highlighted that shared values and a common purpose are crucial in ensuring continued progress and stability.
He concluded his address by saying, “We cannot develop this nation or Anambra State by focusing on how people worship, but by the value they bring to the state.”
