When Americans Were Kidnapped In Cameroon \& Taken To Sokoto, Most Of Us Were Not Even Aware-Okunniyi

Olawale Okunniyi, Secretary General of the Eminent Patriots, has stated that U.S. military operations in Nigeria are focused on counterterrorism and hostage rescue not regime change or political interference.

In an interview with SILVERBIRD N24, Okunniyi said many Nigerians were unaware when American citizens kidnapped in Cameroon were secretly moved to Sokoto State.

He explained that it was only after U.S. special forces entered Nigeria, rescued the hostages, and neutralized some of the kidnappers that the public became aware of the incident.

He compared the operation to similar missions carried out by the U.S. in Pakistan, emphasizing its precision and limited scope.

Okunniyi said the narrative of regime change is misleading and distracts from the real issue—terrorism. He believes the U.S. is not interested in taking over Nigeria’s governance or attacking its institutions.

His words,

“When Americans were kidnapped in Cameroon and they were taken to Sokoto state, most of us were not even aware, until when the American special troops came, rescued them, arrested some of the bandits I mean, killed some of them that was when we got to know. Just like the operation in Pakistan.”
