Former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has raised questions about the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. In a comment on his X account, he questioned why African countries were not being approached to join the military effort after some global powers reportedly declined involvement.
The war began in late February 2026 after joint US and Israeli strikes targeted Iranian military facilities. The attacks triggered retaliation from Iran, which launched missiles and drones at Israeli positions and US-linked targets across the Gulf region. Since then, both sides have continued exchanging attacks on military bases, energy facilities, and strategic infrastructure.
A major focus of the crisis is the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil routes where a large portion of global crude oil shipments passes daily. Iran has reportedly targeted vessels and warned ships linked to the US and its allies, raising fears of disruption to global oil supply and increasing international tensions.
Donald Trump has urged several countries, particularly in Europe and Asia, to support efforts to protect oil vessels and shipping routes in the region. However, many governments have been cautious about joining the conflict.
