JUST IN: PDP to suspend Melaye for declaring party dead

The Kogi State chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has requested that the local executive committee in Ijumu commence immediate suspension procedures against Senator Dino Melaye, following his recent outburst in which he pronounced the party dead. The party’s elders, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo, made the announcement in a statement released to journalists in Lokoja on Sunday.

“Melaye’s political ambitions have crumbled to the point where he can no longer secure even a local councillor position.

“Senator Melaye has become a burden to the party. His accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party’s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election.”

The Kogi PDP blamed Melaye squarely for the party’s current troubles, alleging that his nomination was a major mistake that led to the party’s current situation.

They urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reconsider their support for Melaye, labelling him a “bondage” and a “big-time liability” for the party.
