A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has provided a numerical analysis of Nigeria’s rotational leadership arrangement, highlighting regional representation since 1999.
Okonkwo made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, as discussions around power rotation and political balance continue. Explaining his perspective, he said, “Let us now talk arithmetically and talk quantitatively.”
He began outlining historical leadership patterns, stating, “From 1999, a southerner was at the saddle of office.” He added, “By 2007, he did eight years.” Okonkwo continued, “Now a southerner came in and did two and a half years and was gone.
