The wife of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, Betty, has fired back at critics over her decision to align with the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that, in an Instagram post, Betty, who is seeking to contest the Imo East Senatorial seat, said she has been receiving criticism and attacks over her decision.
Betty, whose late husband was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said she has chosen a platform that reflects inclusion and recognises women in leadership.
According to Betty, her decision is not about party loyalty but purpose, people, and progress.
Betty also clarified that she is the daughter of Emeabiam in Owerri West Local Government of Imo State, despite living in Ondo State.
The post read, “I will not apologise for choosing purpose over politics.
“In the last 24 hours, I’ve seen the reactions support, criticism, even attacks because of my decision to align with the #LabourParty Nigeria in my bid for Imo East Senatorial seat.
“Let me be clear. I am a daughter of #Emeabiam in #OwerriWest Local Government of #ImoState. That is my root, my identity, and my responsibility.
Yes, I have lived and served in #OndoState—but Nigeria must move beyond the idea that service is confined by geography. See More In Details…
