Malachy Ichie, Dean of the School of Business and Social Sciences at Maduka University, Ekwegne Nsukka, has offered fresh insights into cultural identity and social classifications in Nigeria, with a particular focus on the Igbo community.

Speaking during an interview on Signature TV, Malachy Ichie drew attention to what he described as a distinctive social label within Igbo society. According to him, “It Is Only In Igbo Land That We Have City Boys; We Don’t Have Them In The North, West, & South.”

He explained that the term reflects a unique socio-cultural phenomenon shaped by urbanisation and the strong commercial orientation of the Igbo people.
