Former Bhoys striker Gary Hooper rolled back the years to net an equalising poacher’s effort from Stiliyan Petrov’s shot that hit the woodwork.
That was in response to a sumptuous Wayne Rooney top-corner free-kick from distance that delighted the home end in the first half.
Artur Boruc and Lukasz Zaluska made several good saves throughout the 90 minutes to keep the Red Devils’ legends at bay in what was an entertaining affair.
3,000 Celtic fans make the trip to Manchester
Celtic are followed all over the world so it checks out that thousands would make the relatively short journey from Glasgow to Manchester to follow the legends on this international break weekend.
The club say as many as 3,000 turned out for the match in the away end and local journalists such as Andy Mitten noted that not only were the Bhoys there in numbers, but they were loud too.

It was a great occasion for all involved. The players get to relive their glory years and dressing room camaraderie, the fans get a fun day out and the two clubs raise lots of money for good causes.
Celtic support are praised for turning up in numbers
Manchester United Foundation Chief Executive John Shiels said on social media: “It’s been a brilliant day so far at Old Trafford for our Legends match against Celtic.
“Thank you so much to Man United fans for your support – you are the best in the world – and a special nod to the Celtic fans too, for travelling down and showing their support.”
Proceeds from the match will go towards supporting youngsters across Manchester and beyond, helping the Manchester United Foundation to continue its community work and improving the lives of thousands of young people.
Support will also be provided to Celtic FC Foundation, to help in its mission to alleviate poverty in Glasgow and further afield.
