Meanwhile, the State Deputy Governor, Engr Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, has condemned, in very strong terms, the spurious and malicious allegation by the Edo APC that he instigated the chaos and violence that erupted during its recent campaigns at Ososo and lgarra in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by his press secretary, Victor Adefemi said it is ridiculous and unacceptable to link His Excellency, Marvellous Godwins Omobayo to the show of shame as witnessed in APC campaigns in Akoko-Edo on Thursday, September 4, 2024.
“It is also instructive to state that the deputy governor is not a violent man and has never been associated with violence or any criminal act, hence his elevation to the number two citizen of the state.
“For the records, His Excellency, Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, was with the PDP campaign train in Edo Central Senatorial District, precisely in Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West and Irrua, the administrative headquarters of Esan Central on the said day.
In a statement by Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo JP, Director of Publicity for the APC, Edo Governorship Campaign Council, the party claimed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is orchestrating a security threat through the 18 Local Government Council Chairmen across the state.
“The recent attacks on members of our campaign team in Ososo and Igarra towns are clear signs of the PDP’s futile attempts to hinder our efforts to bring APC’s rescue message to every corner of Edo State,” Omo-Ojo stated.
Against this background, Engineer Omobayo said it was not possible for him to orchestrate or sponsor violence in Akoko-Edo when he was preoccupied and engrossed in campaigns for PDP in Edo Central Senatorial District.
As election day draws nearer, attacks on campaigners have intensified.
During APC’s campaign in Ososo and Igarra in the Akoko-Edo local government area, violence erupted as hoodlums dressed in masquerade clothes attempted to disrupt the Ososo.
Meanwhile, a youth leader of Ward 1 is also accused of attempting to cause mayhem during the campaign in Igarri. There were injuries reported in both incidents.
