According to a report by Arise News on Monday, March 30, 2026, the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee for the South South, Emmanuel Ogidi, has stated that reconciliation within the party is the immediate priority for the newly inaugurated National Working Committee (NWC).
Speaking after the recent national convention of the PDP, Ogidi urged aggrieved members to place the party’s unity and survival above individual interests, emphasising that collective focus is essential for the party’s effectiveness ahead of future political contests.
Ogidi highlighted that the successful conduct of the PDP’s national convention was a result of collective determination among party members to address past challenges and strengthen internal processes.
He explained that the smooth organisation of the event reflected a renewed commitment to discipline and coordination within the party.
According to him, the convention also provided an opportunity to show the public that the PDP can function effectively and present a united front, signalling stability and preparedness in its leadership structure.
In discussing the composition of the new NWC, Ogidi stated that the committee combines experienced leaders with fresh voices, aimed at delivering meaningful results for Nigerians.
He noted that this blend of expertise and innovation is intended to guide the party’s strategy, ensuring both continuity in institutional knowledge and the introduction of new perspectives.
Ogidi also addressed concerns about zoning within the party, explaining that the arrangement remains a constitutional principle designed to maintain balance and equity across the regions represented in the NWC.
Ogidi further emphasised that reconciliation and unity are central to the party’s agenda moving forward.
He urged members who had previously expressed dissatisfaction to engage constructively and contribute to a collaborative environment.
According to him, the survival of the PDP depends on members putting aside personal disagreements and focusing on the broader goal of strengthening the party as a credible opposition capable of addressing national challenges.
This, he said, is critical in positioning the PDP to compete effectively against the current administration led by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said, “My message is simple: the PDP is back and stronger. This convention proved that we can organize ourselves and lead. We are more united than ever. To our supporters, stay focused and remain loyal to the party. The work has just begun, and together, we will rescue and rebuild Nigeria.”
