The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested two suspects over an alleged employment scam in Kwara State, highlighting the growing trend of fraud targeting job seekers.
According to the agency, the suspects — Bolaji Kazeem Akinwunmi, popularly known as “Bolaji Original,” and his alleged accomplice and former lover, Kemisola Mary Akinbo — were accused of defrauding victims of a total of ₦2,921,700 under the false promise of securing employment.
The EFCC revealed that Akinwunmi allegedly impersonated officials of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service to gain the trust of unsuspecting applicants. He reportedly claimed to have access to job slots within the agencies, which he used to deceive victims.
The commission noted that the case reflects the increasing exploitation of unemployed Nigerians by fraudsters who take advantage of the country’s challenging job market.
