Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu honoured a 16 year old guinness world record holder, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, at Lagos House, Marina, as part of activities marking World Autism Awareness Day.

The teenager, who is autistic, gained national recognition after successfully cycling from Enugu to Lagos in a remarkable endurance journey that began on March 14, drawing attention to autism awareness and inclusion.

Commending his dedication and effort, Sanwo-Olu described Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement as a powerful reminder that “impossibility is a myth,” stressing that persons living with disabilities possess immense potential when given the right support.

“There is ability in every disability,” the governor said, urging parents and caregivers to continue nurturing children with special needs through love, patience, and encouragement.

He expressed pride that the young Nigerian displaced a British record holder, noting that the achievement underscores the importance of sustained advocacy and societal inclusion for persons living with autism.

Speaking on the 2026 theme, “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value,” Sanwo-Olu called for increased moral and social support for caregivers, emphasizing that such backing is essential to their resilience and effectiveness.

In a show of commitment, the Lagos State Government announced a donation of N100 million to the Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke Autism Foundation, alongside another N100 million to be shared among 20 autism support clusters across the state.

Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, and the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, among others.
