According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, April 2, 2026, Timi Frank has expressed serious concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections. He warned that recent political developments, if left unchecked, could heighten tensions across the country.
Frank criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission, claiming that some of its actions risk undermining public confidence in the electoral process. He also alleged that the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, is influencing political events in ways that could compromise fair competition among political parties.
In his statement, Frank called on the United States, under the leadership of Donald Trump, to monitor the situation closely. He urged international partners to help safeguard democratic principles and ensure the credibility of upcoming elections.

His remarks followed INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition from a faction of the African Democratic Congress, a move currently being contested in court. Frank warned that such decisions could increase political uncertainty and exacerbate crises within opposition parties.
He further expressed concern about internal struggles in parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party, suggesting that external interference may weaken their effectiveness before the 2027 elections.
Frank also questioned the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that recent developments reflect growing authoritarian tendencies. He compared the current situation to Nigeria’s experience under Sani Abacha, when democratic institutions were under intense pressure.
He concluded by urging international intervention, warning:
“The US must act before INEC and the APC-led government set Nigeria ablaze. They pose a serious threat to the foundations of our democracy.”
