According to a report by Leadership, on Friday April 3, 2026, former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, has stated that he and his supporters are planning their next political move after deciding to leave the party.

‎Kalgo made this known while speaking on the growing crisis within the PDP, he explained that discussions are ongoing among party leaders in Kebbi on finding a new political platform, according to him, the goal is to continue their role as an opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎He stated that the decision to leave the PDP was not taken by a few individuals but by the entire party structure in the state, this, he noted, includes top officials and grassroots members who agreed to move together.

‎Kalgo added that many members had become worried about the direction of the party, he said they believe the PDP is no longer strong enough to serve as a credible opposition, because of this, they feel the need to join or create a platform that can better challenge the ruling party.

‎He pointed to recent developments at the national level as part of the problem, according to him, some actions and statements by key figures raised concerns about possible alignment with the ruling government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

‎Kalgo stated that many members were surprised by public endorsements made by some PDP leaders in support of the president and explained that what first appeared to be personal opinions later seemed to reflect a wider position within the party leadership.

‎He stated that after the party’s convention, leaders in Kebbi met and agreed that leaving the PDP was the best option and claimed they believed the party had lost its independence and could no longer stand firmly as an opposition force.

‎“We will find a formidable platform to oppose APC. All the PDP executives, from the chairman downward, are resigning. We have agreed to move together,” he stated.
