There was absolute disquiet and apprehension over the weekend across Bauchi State as the Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has not announced his next destination after declaring that he was leading his teeming members out of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
The Governor had promised to make an announcement on Thursday, but as of Friday evening, when he returned to Bauchi from Abuja, no announcement in that regard was made.
The development has put his supporters and admirers in a serious political dilemma, considering that time was running in line with the guidelines released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state met on Saturday to continue the search for a politically safe landing, a development that has further confused the followers.

The stakeholders, however, set up a high-level committee to explore possible political alignments, including potential collaboration with other parties, as part of efforts to address the party’s internal crisis.
This follows a closed-door stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House banquet hall in Bauchi.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Chairman of the PDP, Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga, said that while there is no definite decision yet, there exists what he described as a “thin possibility” of aligning with other political platforms.
He confirmed that several political parties have already approached the Bauchi PDP, seeking Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and his supporters to join them.
Samaila Adamu Burga explained that the newly constituted committee has been mandated to interface with all interested political parties and assess their conditions before recommending a preferred option.
According to him, the committee will not act in isolation but will engage widely with relevant stakeholders both within and outside the state before arriving at any decision.
He emphasised that the move is necessary in view of the current challenges within the PDP, noting, however, that the party remains strong and enjoys widespread support.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau, includes top party officials, elected representatives, commissioners, and other stakeholders.
The PDP Chairman added that further consultations will continue, after which stakeholders will reconvene to decide on the next political direction.
He, however, assured that the best decision on the issues will be taken in the next week, stressing that whatever is being done is still within the time frame of the electoral law provisions and the INEC schedule for the 2027 general elections.
He then dismissed the rumours of a defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, stressing that nothing of such has happened, and urged the people of the state to disregard the rumours.
