Professor Josh Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said the principle of the rule of law requires that court orders be obeyed first before any party seeks to challenge or appeal them, regardless of how unfair those orders may appear. He made the point during an interview with Arise News while addressing criticism that INEC should not have obeyed orders it disagreed with.
He said some people had even argued that because INEC is an independent body it does not need to obey court orders, which he described as a fundamental misunderstanding of the law.
