A resident of Borgu Local Government Area in Niger State has recounted the panic and confusion that gripped communities following a reported bandit attack in the area.
The resident spoke during an interview on Arise News, describing how information about the attack spread rapidly among neighbouring villages, leaving many people in fear for their safety.
Providing a firsthand account of the situation, the resident said, “We don’t know what happened. But we were told by our neighbouring villages that bandits are around. They have already killed five at Makeri village.” The statement highlights the uncertainty surrounding the incident, as well as the reliance on word-of-mouth communication in rural communities during crises.

According to the account, residents were not immediately aware of the attack but began to take precautions after receiving warnings from nearby settlements. The reported killing of five people in Makati village has heightened anxiety across Borgu, with many fearing further attack.
Local sources suggest that such attacks have become increasingly frequent in parts of Niger State, particularly in remote communities with limited security presence. Residents often depend on informal networks for updates, which can sometimes lead to delayed or fragmented information during emergencies.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement confirming the details of the incident at the time of this report. However, community leaders are said to be urging security agencies to intensify patrols and provide better protection for vulnerable villages.
