Governor Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri’s visionary leadership shines through in the Agricultural Programme for Poverty Alleviation and Climate Change Adaptation (APACCA).
This trailblazing initiative empowers local farmers with 49 improved, climate-resilient crop varieties from national and international research institutes. These included 11 maize, 9 sorghum, 7 rice, 10 cowpea, 5 groundnut, 4 sunflower, and 3 soybean varieties climate-resilient crop varieties, ensuring bountiful harvests and a resilient food supply.
In partnership with the Federal University of Agriculture Mubi, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Bitrus Dawi Tarfa, demonstrations were held on one-hectare farms in each of Adamawa’s 23 LGAs and a 49ha central farm. Farmers selected the best crop varieties, and the harvested seeds will be distributed statewide for the 2024 dry and rain-fed seasons.

The project is domiciled in the state Ministry of Agriculture and is being supervised by the State Food Security Committee. The produced seeds are being harvested and processed in all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the Central Farm. This is another achievement for the “Fresh Air” performing Governor of Adamawa State. Only one kilogram of each of the 49 varieties was given to the LGAs.
Under Dr. Khobr Dishe’s expert guidance, the State Food Security Committee ensures the program’s success. Governor Fintiri’s dedication to combating poverty and climate change is a beacon of hope for Adamawa State.
