BREAKING: What exists between me and Ganduje is mutual respect, But he cannot give me instructions—Kabir Yusuf

According to a report by Daily Post, on Friday, April 10, 2026, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has stated that former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, does not have the authority to dictate to him, emphasising that he currently holds the position of the party’s leader in Kano State.

The governor made this clarification while responding to the wave of criticisms that followed his recent decision to leave the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the APC.

Addressing his supporters during a political gathering, Yusuf rejected claims that his move amounted to a betrayal of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, insisting that his actions were guided by necessity rather than disloyalty.

He explained that his defection was largely influenced by the deep-rooted internal crisis that had plagued the NNPP for some time.

According to him, the issues within the party were evident early on, and he, along with others, had raised concerns in an attempt to prevent a full-blown breakdown.

However, those warnings, he said, were ignored by the party leadership.

Yusuf further noted that his decision to exit the NNPP at the time he did was a proactive step aimed at protecting the interests of the people of Kano State.

He argued that delaying such a move would have led to serious consequences for millions of residents. In his view, the current calm being experienced is proof that his actions were timely and justified.

Speaking candidly, the governor questioned the narrative being pushed by critics who accused him of turning his back on the movement.

He pointed out that some members of the Kwankwasiyya group had previously left the NNPP without consulting others, raising questions about consistency in labelling actions as betrayal.

He suggested that such developments should also be considered when assessing loyalty within the political space.
