The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has described the late Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, as a monarch who “came, saw and conquered,” as leaders from across the Niger Delta gathered in Opobo for his funeral rites.
The National Chairman of PANDEF, Ambassador Godknows Igali, led members of the group’s Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders to the solemn service held at an Anglican church in the Opobo ancestral town, where glowing tributes were paid to the revered traditional ruler.
In a statement issued by PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, Igali described the late monarch as a steadfast pillar of the Niger Delta struggle, noting his consistent presence at key regional engagements.

According to the statement, his last public appearance with PANDEF was at the church service held in honour of the late National Leader, Chief Dr. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, in Kiagbodo, Delta State.
PANDEF further noted that King Jaja was among the traditional rulers who consistently participated in events aimed at advancing the Niger Delta, describing him as a regular attendee at Board of Trustees meetings in Abuja due to his passion for regional development.
The late monarch also played a significant role in advocacy efforts, including his participation in the PANDEF delegation that met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in 2024, where an eight-point demand addressing issues such as deep-sea port development, regional security, infrastructure and federal accountability was presented.
Igali also highlighted King Jaja’s distinguished service outside PANDEF, including his tenure as Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and as Chancellor of the University of Jos.
“As we bid him farewell, we pray that his soul rests in perfect peace,” Igali added.
