The President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, has advised justices of the Appeal Court to uphold fairness and equity in all cases.
Osigwe (SAN) advised the justices against compromising on justice because of the difficulties facing the nation.
He stated this on Monday while delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Nigerian Bar Association at the Annual Justices’ Conference of the Court of Appeal, themed ‘Judicial Introspection’, in Abuja.
He noted that the occasion provided a platform to celebrate the unwavering resilience of our judiciary while addressing the critical challenges confronting justice delivery in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Osigwe emphasized the importance of judicial independence, the integration of technology to improve efficiency, and the “urgent need to tackle systemic issues, such as delays in justice delivery and the misuse of appellate processes”.
The NBA President pointed out the necessity for innovative measures to address the insecurity that has led to the closure of some Court of Appeal divisions, stressing that “justice must never become a casualty of the difficulties facing our nation“.
He assured the commitment of Nigerian lawyers in collaborating with the judiciary to ensure the legal system continued to inspire confidence and deliver justice.
“The Nigerian Bar Association remains steadfast in its commitment to collaborating with the judiciary to ensure that our legal system continues to inspire confidence, deliver justice, and serve as a pillar of hope for all Nigerians,” he stated.
