The Kaduna State command of the Nigeria Police Force has reported that its personnel have successfully neutralized one suspected bandit and arrested three additional individuals in a recent operation.
The command also noted that its officers apprehended three suspected armed robbers in a different operation.
The spokesperson for the command, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed these developments in a statement released in Kaduna on Tuesday.
Hassan detailed that on October 8, at approximately 2:45 AM, a surveillance team from the Kasuwan Mata Police Division, acting on reliable intelligence, executed a successful operation at a brothel situated on Nupe Street in the Kasuwan Mata area of Zaria.
During this operation, a 35-year-old individual named Adamu Yahaya was apprehended.
“A thorough search of his person led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge, and a pair of handcuff in his possession,” he said.
The spokesperson indicated that initial investigations have begun, and the suspect is currently in police custody, where he is undergoing interrogation.
He further revealed that on October 8, at approximately 10:30 AM, a patrol unit from the Barnawa Division apprehended two individuals while executing a stop-and-search operation.
These individuals have been identified as Andrew Emmanuel, a male residing in Gbagyi Villa, Kaduna, and Mendwas Peter Bulus, a male from Television Village, Kaduna.
During the search, the following items were seized from them: one service pistol, two Infinix mobile phones, and a quantity of dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp.
The suspects admitted to being involved in armed robbery activities within Kaduna, as noted by Hassan.
The PPRO added that further investigations were underway to uncover the full extent of their activities and to identify other accomplices.
Hassan said, also, on Dec. 9, acting on credible intelligence, the police surveillance team attached to the Dan-Magaji Division observed three individuals behaving suspiciously along the Kano-Kaduna expressway.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects provided unsatisfactory responses, prompting a thorough search. During the search, officers discovered 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one round of 7.62x39mm live ammunition in their possession,” Hassan said.
The suspects have been identified as Buhari Suleiman, residing on Labar Road in Jaji, Kaduna; Jamil Yakubu, from Dungun Sambo in Dandume, Katsina State; and Aliyu Abdullahi, located in Tushen Jaji, Kaduna.
According to initial investigations, it has come to light that Jamil Yakubu acquired 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition just one week prior.
“He travelled from Katsina to procure additional rounds from Buhari Suleiman when the police intercepted the transaction,” he said.
The spokesperson said on Dec. 10, at about 5:00 hours, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Damakasuwa received credible intelligence regarding an attack by suspected bandits on residents in the Tudu Gishere area.
He said: “Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilised a team of officers and personnel from the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to respond to the situation.”
Upon reaching the location, he stated that they confronted the bandits in an intense exchange of gunfire, during which one unidentified bandit was eliminated while the other suspects escaped into the nearby foliage, sustaining gunshot injuries.
Hassan reported that the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Ibrahim Abdullahi, praised the officers for their effective operations.
The Commissioner encouraged the public to persist in supplying the police with reliable information to aid in the ongoing battle against crime throughout the state, he remarked.
