The United States Consulate in Lagos spokesperson, Julie McKay, has said her country would continue to deepen the connection it has with Nigeria.
Julie McKay said Nigeria’s creative industry has the potential to be the nation’s biggest export if well harnessed.
She stated this on Thursday in an interview with News Central. McKay disclosed that about 700,000 Nigerian diasporas are living in the US.
“I think everyone here already knows this, both the UN has said that the creative industry in Nigeria has the potential to be the biggest export, right? And so the U.S. is invested in the creative industries here because it’s going to create millions of jobs on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
“And we look at the connection between the United States and Nigeria. I also don’t think that you – you already know this as well, but there’s such a huge diaspora, Nigerian diaspora. Over 700,000 people of Nigerian descent live in the United States. Over 20,000 Nigerians are studying in the United States. We’re connected,” she said.
McKay emphasized that her country was committed to harnessing the good relationship it has with Nigeria for the good of both countries.
“And so we just want to make sure that we continue that connection, we deepen it, we send people both directions, we bring Americans; making sure that we broaden the opportunities,” she added.
